So, Paul and I finally made the purchase - we both bought road bikes. We'd been looking at bikes for awhile, but since they range anywhere from $900 - $7,000 we had to do a lot of homework and save a little money before we could finally buy them. In the end we both ended up with pretty inexpensive, entry-level type bikes. They'll work for now and if we end up riding as much as we hope to, then maybe we'll upgrade. Paul hopes to train for and start doing triathlons, I'm hoping to just do bike races. I'd like to do 50 milers and century rides.
So, we both took our bikes out for rides on Saturday and it was pretty fun. Paul has ridden road bikes before with our neighbors - so he knows what he's doing. I have never ridden a road bike before and it was awesome. I'm a little nervous to ride in traffic right now (still getting used to shifting, etc.) so I rode mostly on the trails. I also didn't realize how much colder it would be on the bike as compared to running. As soon as I got home from my ride I went and purchased some gloves and leg/knee warmers. IT WAS A CHILLY RIDE! I don't think I could ever stop running or training for marathons, but biking is amazing. You can cover so much distance so quickly...I love it!

And yes, we did purchase SPANDEX shorts, jerseys, pedals and shoes, helmets, the whole bit! I'm a little nervous to ride with my clip-in shoes - I need to get used to the bike first! But I'm sure we'll both be off and riding soon with no problems!

That is SO awesome you guys! Keep us in the loop of any big rides coming up and maybe we'll come up for them. Also, Paul - there is a triathlon (Olympic & Sprint Distance) here in Vegas in April. A few of us are working towards it. You should check it out. http://www.bbsctri.com/rage.html
VERY cool, Liesel & Paul!!
Great job! Scott keeps trying to talk me into getting a road bike but i keep telling him that is "his" thing and he can enjoy it for awhile then maybe I will consider trying it out. It is definitely a huge purchase to get started up.
